Title Things don't end at their edges - Kate Fitzharris
Category Exhibition
Dates Saturday March 16, 2019 - Sunday June 9, 2019
Location Sarjeant Gallery, Taupo Quay, Whanganui.

'Things don't end at their edges' is an exhibition resulting from Kate's 2018 residency at Tylee Cottage. Kate asked the Whanganui community to share the stories behind ceramic objects they owned with her. Objects shared ranged from bricks and electrical insulators to fine porcelain, slip cast E.T figurines and teddy bears made by one participant's daughter. From these stories Kate has created a new body of work that expands upon these narratives, finding connections within this community of ceramic things.

American curator and scholar Glenn Adamson notes in his book Fewer, Better Things (Bloomsbury, 2018) "As a culture we are in danger of falling out of touch, not only with objects, but with the intelligence they embody: the empathy that is bound up in tangible things...every object represents a potential social connection. By better inderstanding the tangible things in our lives we better understand our fellow humans".
