Heather Anne Atkins
Starting my pottery career in Hawke's Bay, I have been passionate about working with clay since the early 1980's. Developing an export market for my work in Hawaii in 1982, then proud to be the recipient of the Great NZ Mugs Award that same year. I felt honoured to have won a competition judged by my peers, held at the Auckland 'Ceramics 82 Symposium'.

Another amazing year followed in 1983, when I was fortunate to have one of my pottery pieces; a unique replica of an early NZ cottage, presented to Princess Diana, during the 'Royal New Zealand 1983 Tour'. It was presented by the Governor General, Sir David Beattie, at Government House. The thank you note from the Princess of Wales, that followed, I will treasure forever.

Diagnosed with a brain tumour in 1996, challenging days lay ahead for me. After surgery I found my pottery was too greater challenge. Frustrated...early in my recovery I started to paint. A few years later, I renewed my passion for working with clay, and currently enjoy working in both mediums.

I have been fortunate to receive a certain amount of media attention over the years. Newspaper and Magazine Articles, Television interviews and a Solo Exhibition Opening televised in 2003. A widely exhibited artist in New Zealand, with both joint and solo exhibitions, I have also exhibited in Italy and the the USA.

I am concentrating on my sculpted and hand-built pottery at present. Enjoying my work on equine subjects; giving them a human-like quality. And keeping up with the continued demand for my pottery houses.
