Wyndrok Pottery, Central Otago

I began playing with clay in 1978 when my children were small. I attended the 3hr/week part-time classes at the Otago Polytechnic and continued these for 10 years.

I am a Physiotherapist by profession and by 1989 my physiotherapy practice and family had to come before my ceramics, which I sadly relinquished. It would be 10 years before I had the opportunity to become involved with clay again.

In 1999 I entered the 3 year diploma of Ceramics at the Otago Polytechnic, with some exemptions because of prior learning. This arrangement allowed me to continue with my Physiotherapy and complete the Diploma.

It was an extremely busy time but highly rewarding 3 years which culminated in my being awarded the ceramic prize.

During the last 10 years I have had the opportunity to visit and spend time in various potteries in the Northern Hemisphere.

I have now settled in Lake Hawea, Central Otago, and have established my own studio, overlooking the lake from where I now work. Visitors are always welcome.

I primarily make functional ware which is all gas fired. Almost all my work is thrown on an electric wheel. My special interest is in high fired glazes, in particular glaze on glaze effects. I make all my own glazes and I am continually exploring their endless possibilities.
