Halswell Pottery Group Inc.

Halswell Pottery Group has been operating from the cottage on Candy's Road since 1971, and is a vibrant hub for the many who come to classes and club days every week. As the Halswell and Selwyn population grows, so does our new membership, while we still benefit from the expertise of several of our founding members.

We have three electric kilns for the use of members and tutors, as well as a gas-fired kiln. The big wood kiln in the shed is fired at least once a year, the small salt kiln is fired more frequently. Facilities for Raku, drum and pit firings are available to members. Firing the Anagama kiln, being so labour intensive, is always carefully planned and great fun.

Classes are run in term time. All skill levels are welcome to learn hand or wheel work, how to make up and apply glazes, and to discover the vast territory of the potters' world.

Club members enjoy the group work days, the assistance of more experienced potters and the group firings. There is an organised programme of events, outings and gallery visits, workshops with visiting artists, sales opportunities and an annual Exhibition.

The Gallery in the front room of the Cottage is open to the public on weekends and features work for sale by members.

Our club day is Monday.

Evening classes are run, 7 - 9.30, during term times.

The Gallery is open from 10 - 4 at the week-ends.

Ceramics Association of New Zealand

Registered as an incorporated society in 1965 by an enthusiastic group of potters in Wellington, New Zealand, Ceramics NZ has grown to become a significant international voice in New Zealand ceramics. The affiliation of about three dozen independent pottery clubs throughout New Zealand together with a number of corporate businesses greatly increases its effective membership. We are a national, not-for-profit organisation representing the interests of practising potters and ceramicists, students of ceramics and all those interested in New Zealand ceramics. We actively support and promote quality, and we encourage and support specialist ceramics education nationally.
